• mytto was developed as the capstone project of my UX/UI bootcamp – a collaborative journey from research to prototype. The result: a habit tracker that motivates through charm and clarity, not pressure. With avatars, thoughtful microcopy, and a light-hearted tone, mytto makes building healthy habits feel human again.

  • Who hasn’t been there? You start the new year full of good intentions, totally motivated for exactly 48 hours – and then real life kicks in: deadlines, no energy, no time, no plan.

Healthy routines sound great – but in everyday life, they often feel like just another item on the to-do list. Too big, too much, too far from real life.

  • Our user research confirmed that most people struggle with rigid, high-pressure structures – they want routines that feel personal, flexible, and achievable. That insight led us to the hypothesis:

“If routines are individually adaptable and broken down into small, manageable steps, users tend to stay motivated and engaged over the long term.”

User Research

To understand how people form – and often abandon – healthy routines, We conducted a mixed-method study as part of the capstone project mytto.

An online survey with over 60 participants revealed key motivations, barriers, and preferences around habits and self-care. To deepen these findings, We conducted four user interviews.

Mentioned lack of motivation as the main reason why routines fail.

"I want to drink more water – starting small helps me build the habit step by step."

Hypothesis

Based on these insights, we developed our central How Might We question to address these needs with empathy:

"How might we empower people to develop healthy routines in their own way, strengthen their intrinsic motivation, and stay engaged in the long term?"

User Persona & Journey

Rita is 33, a social worker from Munich with heart, brains, and the unwavering belief that the world can be a better place – at least after her first coffee. Happily partnered, child-free by choice. She loves her job as a social worker, but she’s starting to feel increasingly stressed, and the things that once brought her joy or peace have slowly disappeared from her weekdays. Long-term, Rita knows this can’t go on.

UI Foundation

  • Soft shapes, lowercase type, and a vibrant gradient – the mytto logo reflects a warm, creative, and modern identity. The name mytto is a playful twist on "my to-do".

  • The typography combines personality with clarity. Baloo 2 adds rounded, friendly headlines with an empathetic character, while Manrope complements it as a neutral, highly legible typeface for all text levels.

  • The color palette reflects the emotional depth of the app – soft, calm, and trustworthy with vibrant accents that spark joy.
The Myttos (avatars) echo these colors, reinforcing the visual identity throughout the experience.

  • The icons are reduced to the essentials for clear functional recognition. With their rounded corners, they seamlessly fit into the app’s friendly and playful visual identity.
